Dreams

DREAMS ARE WHY WE AIM HIGH

If we collectively or singly want to do amazing and extraordinary things then our dreams provide a roadmap.

That map is neither well-defined nor in anyway linear. More like a Snakes and Ladders board. At Footfalls, our Founder wrote a piece titled “My Dream”. This was written at a particularly testing time for both the business and himself. It summarises how our journey has gone, is going and will continue into the future. Reality bites – money in, more money out, decisions made – good, bad and appalling, hires made – good, bad and amazing and finally focus – it waxed and waned like the moon.

These are all the result of that dream. That dream cast the mould for the past, present and future of Footfalls & Heartbeats. That dream is battered, bruised, almost invisible, close to destruction  and then back as clear as day.

Why do we let our dreams do this to our psyche and our soul?

TO MAKE US STRIVE STRUGGLE AND GRAFT

Dreams are a journey and then they are REAL. The problem with that is we often have no idea of how long the journey might be. In the case of Footfalls & Heartbeats it will be at least my lifetime.

Dreams make us human. Dreams are the bedrock of all true innovation. Dreams drive us. Dreams are choice (a Kiwism that few will understand). Thanks for following our dream.

MY DREAM

It was my dream and is my dream.

To dream is to be quintessentially human. We dream to see and shape the future. We dream to unleash our passions and realize our potential.

My dream is to “change the world”, to allow science to make lives better and by making them better to unleash the potential that lives within all souls. We may live in a world governed by those whose dreams are less grand and more pragmatic. Never let this change your own. Make them aware of what your dream is and make sure that you never cease making them aware of that dream. They will be frightened of your musings as all hierarchies are frightened by those who dare to suggest and implement change.

Dreams are both amazing and frightening in equal measure. These two qualities are what make them so powerful. Dreams will empower the dreamer and also scare them “witless”. Dreams will often galvanize disparate groups and create a common goal. Dreams will cause the “status quo” to fear, doubt and protect their interests. None of these emotions or actions need stop your dreams from either remaining in your consciousness or being delivered for real.

Civilisation and society were never driven forward by those who seek to control and undermine the dreamers. Mankind moves forward at a pace driven by dreamers, doers and explorers.

Dreams will cause you pain and pleasure. They will make you doubt your very soul or fill your mind with dark thoughts. They do this with no pleasure and no agenda. They will test you. Resolve and determination are the bedfellows of dreams. Never give in to pressure and never give up on your vision.

Dreams are not grand things. Dreams are an extension of yourself, they are personal and they are often private. If you make them public then be prepared for the sound and fury that follows. Never let this havoc undermine you or your dream. A dream can be the smallest thing however it will always have the greatest effect on those who genuinely care about you. Always make them the centre of that dream.

A desire to change the world, not matter how grand or small is a truly bold and powerful decision. Take this decision and make it happen. Listen to yourself and make a difference.

THIS IS MY DREAM
