It’s Just a Game
This post is being written before the most important event of the 21st Century. Ah, sorry it is a semifinal of the European Championships between England and The Netherlands. Yes, it is a game of football.
Sorry to disillusion anyone, but we will still be circling the sun whether your team was victorious or not. You will be happy or a little bit sad at the outcome but it’s just a game. This is not flippant it is a fact. I come from a nation (Kiwi) where winning in our national sport is as near as dammit a religion. This is very unhealthy, although it does not stop me pacing the floor watching any game with the All Blacks involved.
You ask, what has this got to do with a smart textile company. Well, imagine this. We place respiration monitors on a proportion of each set of fans and then over the 90, 120 minutes or horrible penalties we monitor respiration rate. This is one of the basic human vital signs. It shows elevated breathing due to a collective celebration of the goal or collective breath holding as you navigate the dreaded penalty shoot-out.
And then we make a piece of artwork that represents the emotions of the event. Each set of supporters get a different artwork. This is not to make you feel jubilant or jaded about the result. It is to remind you that you are a member of society, of a community of humanity. We are all part of this wonderful tribe called humanity and we need to celebrate all its ups and downs. Emotionally we can all connect in triumph or defeat.
Remember it’s just a game.
