The Tour de France is arguably the toughest sporting endurance event in the world.

Each year the greatest road cycling professionals compete over 3 weeks to win the coveted yellow jersey. They typically race a total distance of around three and a half thousand kilometers and climb the equivalent of multiple Everest ascents all the while taking on extremes of temperature, sometimes violent crosswinds and as far as possible, avoiding injuries and crashes.

Whilst the fancy coaches, team cars and extensive support staff might suggest the cyclists are in a bubble of luxury, the harsh reality is one of a series of nights sharing rooms in mostly average hotels, often without air conditioning despite the fiercest heat that a continental European summer can deliver.

Rest and recovery is the key to the athletes performing at their very best day after day, which means a comfortable mattress, designed individually to the individual characteristics of each cyclist, but how is this achieved…

Whilst trial and error has been the traditional approach to mattress selection, Footfalls unique Smart Mattress Topper for the first time brings science and data to this challenge. With Footfalls the textile is the sensor, delivering real time position and movement on the mattress. Combine that with a Footfalls respiration band and unlock the secrets to better sleep, faster recovery and higher performance.
